Where It Began
What would eventually become Jason's expert empire started as a simple idea, in a small home
office, three months after he earned his degree from the Grainger School of Business.
After graduating, Jason accepted a marketing position at a sports facility in town,
but his dream was to one day run his own business. So to scratch that entrepreneurial itch,
he decided to launch a small website, helping people set and achieve their personal and
professional goals.
After working at his job all day, he would build his side project all night.
"I enjoyed my job and loved my team, but like so many other hopeful experts, I knew I wasn't
meant for lifelong employment. So every night after work I would head straight to the computer
and spend hours growing my little project."
The site became more and more popular each month, requiring more and more time and attention.
Soon enough, a decision had to be made.
Going All In
Every entrepreneur dreams of the day when they can quit their 9-to-5 and finally become their
own boss. For Jason, that day came on January 1, 2006.
The choice between sticking with the safety of a guaranteed paycheck or quitting and giving his
own business a real chance seemed like an easy one to make, but it was as nerve-wracking as it was
rewarding.
"I was terrified. I had no idea if the business would do well enough, if I would be able to
pay my bills, my mortgage, or my school loans. But I couldn't shake the feeling that now was the time
to go all in. Scared as I was, I quit."
Some people thought he was crazy. And at first, it appeared they may have been right.
The road ahead was rough. He was now free to run his business full time, but that didn't guarantee
results. Sales were slow, bills were piling up, and the end seemed near.
He had big dreams for the company, but he didn't know how to make it all come together.
"I will never forget the day I stood in aisle seven at my local Walmart. I had to buy
two bins for my tax records. Problem was, I could only afford one. I felt sick to my
stomach and worried that I had made the wrong decision."
Though he considered giving up, Jason decided to give it one last shot.
The Last-Ditch Effort
"I knew other experts were succeeding, and I knew I had valuable information to share.
Like my clients and most others hoping to become six-figure experts, it wasn't that I didn't know
my topic. What I never mastered was how to position myself, how to effectively package what I knew,
or how to promote my value to the marketplace."
Jason redoubled his efforts and committed to doing whatever it took to succeed. He reached out to
industry leaders, modeled best practices, and tested (and retested) new strategies and tactics.
Though it took a great deal of time to figure it all out, the effort eventually paid off.
Using what he had uncovered, Jason's sales reached a 450% increase, sending him far past six-figures.
He reached millions around the globe, amassed over 135,000 subscribers, and sold tens of thousands
of books and programs.
Jason had finally achieved the dream: doing what he loved, when and where he wanted to do it, all
while working less hours, earning more income, and helping more people than ever before.
But he wasn't done.
The Six-Figure Expert
During his search for a solution, Jason discovered something interesting. He noticed that the
most successful experts followed the same six-step pattern, whether they realized it or not,
that paved the way for their results.
Regardless of the expert, the pattern was the same.
